The death of Mr. Leighty was attributed to a complication of ailments which developed after a fall which he suffered on Tuesday, Jan. 15. He was not seriously injured in the fall, but he never recovered from the shock and uremic poisoning developed. Mr. Leighty was apparently in his usual health when, in some manner unknown to members of the family, he fell from an upstairs window and was later found wandering about the house in a sort of daze. He was put to bed and medical aid summoned but the shock was too much for one of his age. He was the son of Jacob and Barbara (Lingenfelter) Leighty and was born on Oct. 23, 1848, on the farm where he resided all his life. Some years ago he retired and turned the farm over to his sons, with whom he resided since the death of his wife, Annie (Stiffler) Leighty, who died ten years ago. The death of Mr. Leighty breaks a family of five generations, the survivors being eight children and a number of grandchildren, great- grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren. He was the last of his own family, but these children survive: Jeremiah Leighty of Elgin, Kans., Mrs. Joseph Treml of Lilly, Mrs. Lewis Shaw of Altoona, Boyd Leighty of Johnstown, Charles and Wilbur Leighty, on the homestead, Mrs. Samuel Marble and Mrs. Andrew Gill, both of Duncansville. Mr. Leighty was identified with the public interests of his native community and for many years served as a township auditor. He was a member of the Newry Lutheran church, where funeral services will be conducted Saturday morning at 10 o'clock, and interment will be made in the Newry Lutheran cemetery.
