Over nine years ago he sustained a stroke of paralysis and had been confined to his bed ever since. He was a son of Robert and Elsie Leonard, both deceased, and was born in Bedford county in November, 1843. He was married early in life, to Sarah Shock, also of Bedford county. To this union ten children were born, eight of who survive as follows: Mrs. Henry Zimmerman of Saxton, Henry of Tyrone, John of Williamsport, Mrs. C. E. Kepier and Daniel of Altoona, Nathan, Ira and Mrs. Edward Lynn of Mines. He is also survived by these brothers and sisters: Alexander of Duncansville, David, Mrs. Jane Kilbraith and Mrs. Emma Wyant of Saxton, Pierce of Ormenia and Mrs. Sarah Clements of Marklesburg. He enlisted July 12, 1864, in Co. I, 194th Pa. volunteer infantry, and served until the end of the war under Capt. H. E. Quinby, being honorably discharged at Harrisburg. He was a faithful member of the Ormenia Methodist church most of his life and funeral services were conducted at the church at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon, by Rev. Patterson of Royer.
