All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _________________________________________ FOUND DEAT AT POINT William Leonard, Veteran of Boer War, Succumbs Sunday Night William Leonard, well known in this city and for a time employed at the coke ovens in the vicinity of Kittanning Point, was found dead along the tracks of one of the Pennsylvania railroad branch coal tracks at the Point yesterday morning by several miners. He was a veteran of the Boer war coming here at its close. Leonard was in the city Saturday and Sunday, coming here to look for employment. He was thrown out of work when the coke ovens at which he was employed closed down. He talked with friends about going to Loretto to work on a reservoir there. He left the city Sunday night, was seen sitting along the track and had evidently died suddenly. He is known to have two sons in the British army. Deputy Coroner Rothrock decided an inquest unnecessary. The remains were given over to Undertaker Lafferty & Tobias to be prepared for burial. Altoona Tribune, Tuesday, January 28, 1919, page 4
