A few weeks before his death, when he had strong hopes of recovery, the deceased made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ, and was received into full communion with his Church. His solemn and earnest manner was truly affecting, when he thus gave himself in body and soul, for life and death, to his Lord and Savior, and was spiritually strengthened by the most comfortable sacrament of his body and blood. What a comfort to bereaved friends to see him depart at peace with God, in humble trust that he was accepted in the beloved. A young wife, with four small children, mourn his untimely death. It was gratifying to them (and numerous friends and relatives) to witness the unusually large concourse of sympathizing acquaintances, in attendance at the funeral. He was buried in the Altoona Cemetery, according to the liturgical form of the Reformed Church, and the rites of the Odd Fellows who were out in large numbers, and in full regalia. The Empire Hook and Ladder Company were also present in full force, to testify respect for a departed member. "Watch, for the Son of man cometh at an hour that ye think not."
