LEVAN DIES AT SEASHORE Retired Business Man Succumbs at Atlantic City Following Brief Illness Lucius R. Levan, of 2000 Broad avenue, a well known Altoonan and retired business man, died yesterday morning at 3.10 o'clock at Atlantic City, of a complication of diseases following an illness of three days. Mr. Levan had been spending the winter season at the seaside resort with his wife and daughter. He had been in failing health for the last five years but his condition did not become serious until Saturday, and he had been able to be about until Thursday. His mother, Mrs. Isabella Levan, was summoned to his bedside late Saturday afternoon and the family physician, Dr. W. H. Howell, was called at the same time. The latter arrived shortly before death came. Born in this city, October 13, 1863, Lucius Reifsnyder Levan was the son of John P., deceased, and Isabella Levan. Practically his entire life was spent in this city. He became a Pennsy apprentice and learned the carpentering trade in the Altoona car shops in his youth but never followed this occupation. Later he took up drafting and was employed in the local offices for a short time. He left his position to embark on a career in the wholesale grocery business with Edward Beale, of this city, and they located an establishment in the rear of the old Central hotel, the site of which is now occupied by the Altamont. Twenty years [ago] Mr. Levan retired from the wholesale company and since then was interested in realty deals and other affairs which did not require his entire time. Five years ago he lost his sight and was totally blind for two years. His sight was restored in 1916 through an operation at the Polyclinic hospital, Philadelphia, and he had been able to see only during the last five months. He took up his residence at the New Nixon apartments, Atlantic City, shortly before Thanksgiving Day last year. Mr. Levan was a member of Grace Lutheran church. His wife survives with a foster-daughter, Miss Anna. His mother and two sisters, Mrs. H. J. White, and Mrs. H. S. Prutzman, all of this city, also survive. The body will be brought here this evening and taken to the residence of his mother, 1223 Twelfth avenue, where private funeral services will be held on Wednesday at an hour to be announced later. Private burial in Fairview cemetery. Altoona Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Monday Morning, February 19, 1917 LUCIUS R. LEVAN'S FUNERAL. Will Take Place This Afternoon From His Mother's Home.
