The deceased was the oldest man in Snyder township, being in his eighty-ninth year, and one of the first settlers of Hickory Bottom. He settled near what is now called Summit, on the Bald Eagle Valley railroad, which has been his home for fifty-four years. It was then a wilderness, and the howls of the wolf were not an uncommon thing. He was the father of six children, and thirty-seven grand children, fifty- eight great grand children and one great great grand child survive him. Although living to see his children's children to the third generation, he retained much of his physical strength, being able to rise from his bed and walk through the room without aid until a few days previous to his death. He built a very neat little sleigh for one of his grandsons this fall. The funeral services were conducted at the home of the deceased, by Rev. J. B. King, of the M. E. church, on Tuesday at 10 o'clock a.m., the text being taken from Gen. 47:8,9. His remains were taken to their last resting place at the Cross Roads near Warriorsmark, followed by a large concourse of friends. Thus, death removed from our midst one whose head was white with the frost of many winters and the last member of a family who were noted for their ingenuity. Clipping was obtained from Blair County Genealogical Society, and not marked with newspaper name and date. Joseph Lewis died December 4, 1880.
