Lewis, Sr., 410 West 16th st., died Wednesday at 9:40 p.m. at Tyrone Hospital after suffering a stroke at his home. He was born Oct. 3, 1899, at Tyrone, a son of Lawrence and Grace Closson Lewis. He was married Sept. 18, 1929, at Hollidaysburg, to Edna C. McNeal. He was a lifelong resident of Tyrone. Surviving are the widow, sons and daughters: Mrs. Mina L. Yaudes, and Samuel W. Lewis Jr., of Tyrone; William C., of Altoona RD 1; Mrs. Virginia M. Gorby, of Lorain, Ohio: Jody L., at home; and the following brothers and sisters: Claude C., Mrs. Jennie Kobuck, both of Tyrone; Melvin C., of Tyrone RD 3. Two brothers and three sisters preceded him in death. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was of the Protestant faith and a member of the Tyrone Sportsmen's Association. He had been an employee of the Tyrone plant of Westvaco Corp. as a foreman in the pulp mill, retiring in 1964, after 43 years of service. Funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home, in charge of the Rev. William J. Shope. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tyrone Daily Herald, Tyrone, Pa., January 2, 1976
