Lewis, of 504 Garfield st., a former resident of Bethlehem who has made his home in Tyrone since his marriage in 1967, died Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at the Tyrone Hospital. He had been in failing health for the past two years. He was born June 30, 1880, at Bethlehem, a son of Allen and Alvesta Klotz Lewis. On July 5, 1913, he was married to Emma L. Lorrah, who died Dec. 10, 1963. On October 2, 1967, at the Salvation Army Citadel, Bethlehem, he was married to Eleanor Cowher, who survives. He is survived by his wife; two granddaughters, Mrs. Robert (Judi) Volka, of Chadds Ford, and Mrs. Stanley (Patricia) Krycia, of Bethlehem; five great grandchildren: two sisters and a brother: Miss Martha Lewis, Bethlehem; Mrs. George (Julia) Knapp, Mardela Springs, Md., and Nathan Lewis, Bath; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, William G. Lewis. He was a 50-year member and a Soldier and Servant of Christ in the Salvation Army. He was a member of Wreath of Friendship Lodge 917 IOOF, the Veterans of World War 1 Barracks 0989, and a 50-year member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen 968, Bethlehem. He had retired as an engineer for the Philadelphia, Bethlehem and New England Railroad Co. He was a veteran of World War I, serving as a sergeant with Headquarters Company, 316th Infantry, U.S. Army. Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Salvation Army Citadel, Bethlehem, with Lt. Margaret Morrison, assisted by Lt. Judy Hively, in charge. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Bethlehem. Friends will be received at the Feller Memorial Home today from 7 to 9 p.m. and at the Salvation Army Citadel, Bethlehem, on Tuesday from noon until 2 p.m. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Tyrone Salvation Army.
