Paul James Light,well-known Tyrone boy, fell in action while fighting with Lt. Gen. Mark Clark's 5th army in the battle for Rome. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Light of 1911 Hamlin avenue,Tyrone,on Saturday afternoon received a telegram from the war department in Washington, D. C, that their son, Sgt. Paul James Light, had been killed in action on May 23, somewhere in Italy. No particulars were given and the parents were advised that a letter would follow the death message. The young soldier was attached to an armored regiment of a tank division. Sgt. Light was born in Tyrone on Aug. 31, 1921. He was reared in his native town and attended the public school. When called for service on June 4, 1942, he was in the employ of the Pennsylvania Railroad road company. He received his basic training at several camps and went overseas on Oct. 4, 1942. He saw service with the American forces in northern Africa, Sicily and in the Italian campaign. Sgt. Light besides his parents is survived by five brothers, two of them in the service, and a sister. They are Pvt. Robert Light in Hawaii and S2/c Ray Light with the Atlantic fleet, Melvin, William and Charles Light and Miss Marion Light, all at home. 6/14/1944 Altoona Mirror Sgt. Paul Light HOLD FUNERAL SERVICE. A posthumous funeral service was held Sunday afternoon at the home of Mr.and Mrs. Jesse Light,1911 Hamlin avenue, Tyrone, for their son, the late Sgt. Paul Light who was killed in action in Italy on May 23. Rev. P. F. Mickey, pastor of the First United Brethren church in Tyrone conducted the service. Full details of Sergeant Light's death have not been received. However, the family has received a letter of sympathy from the adjutant general's office in Washington.
