Thomas Lingenfelter, a former grocer and retired Pennsy blacksmith, died at 9:30 o'clock yesterday morning at his home, 2516 Seventh avenue, after an illness since last Sunday of heart disease. Mr. Lingenfelter retired from the service of the Pennsy on August 1, 1913, having been employed as a gas maker in the Twelfth street shops. He was born on July 1, 1838, in East Freedom, and came to Altoona more than fifty years ago. In August, 1869, he entered the grocery business. In 1884 he gave up the business and re-entered the Pennsy service. He was married on December 12, 1867, in this city, to Miss Nancy Bottorf, of Pine Grove Mills, Centre county. Since retiring, Mr. Lingenfelter resided a portion of the time at his bungalow on Brush run, back of Lakemont. He is survived by his wife, three children, and four brothers and sisters, all of this city. Mr. Lingenfelter was a member of the Grace Reformed church. Thomas Lingenfelter, a former grocer and retired blacksmith of the Pennsy died at 9.30 o'clock yesterday morning at his home, 2516 Seventh avenue, after an illness since Sunday. He suffered from heart disease. His death comes as a great shock to his many friends. Mr. Lingenfelter retired from the Pennsy service on Aug. 1, 1913, having been employes as a gas maker in the Twelfth street shops previous to his reaching the age of 70 years. He was born on July 1, 1838, in East Freedom, and came to Altoona over fifty years ago. He was employed for a time as a Pennsy trackman and entered the Altoona shops in 1862 as a boilermaker. Later he was transferred to the blacksmith shop. He spent his early life in South Altoona. In August, 1869, he entered the grocery business and conducted the store on the site where the Gable & Co. store now stands. He gave up the business in 1884 and re-entered the Pennsy service. Mr. Lingenfelter was married on Dec. 12, 1867, in Altoona, to Miss Nancy Bottorf of Pine Grove Mills, Center county. Since being retired Mr. Lingenfelter resided a portion of the time at his bungalow "Unadilla," situated along Brush run, back of Lakemont. He is survived by his wife and three children, Mrs. Lydia Marsher of Llyswen and Robert C. and Miss Edna, both at home, and by the following brothers and sisters: William Frank, Edwin, Mrs. Joseph Vogt and Miss Lucinda Lingenfelter, all of this city.
