All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _________________________________________ HARVEY LITTLE MEETS DEATH ON RAILROAD Young Brakeman Was Struck on Head by Passing Train When He Looked Out the Cab Window - Widow Survives Harvey Little, aged 23, of 120 East Fourth avenue, a fireman on the Pennsy work train on the Pittsburgh division died at 4:25 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the Altoona hospital, ten minutes after being admitted, suffering from a fracture of the skull, sustained, it is believed, when he was struck by a passing train of cars when he leaned from the window on the fireman's side of the engine cab. The accident happened at 3 o'clock in the afternoon near the Gallitzin station, where the work train was standing while track repairs were in progress. No details of the accident were available late last evening although it is thought that Little was injured when he leaned out the cab window. His head and scalp were badly bruised and lacerated. His body bore not other marks. RUSHED TO THIS CITY After the accident Little was given medical attention at Gallitzin and placed on board a train and rushed to this city. He was unconscious upon arrival here and died at the hospital just ten minutes after being admitted. Members of his family were appraised [sic] of the accident as the body was enroute to this city. Deputy Coroner Chester C. Rothrock of Blair county was immediately notified of the accident and will conduct an investigation this morning. The coroner was unable to learn any details whatever last evening. The body was turned over to Funeral Directors Roher & Mauk of Juniata to be prepared for burial. BORN IN ALTOONA Harvey Little was born in Altoona on June 12, 1894, the son of Roland W. and Mary Aurandt Little of 120 East Fourth avenue and has been in the employ of the Pennsy for several years. He is survived by his parents, his wife, Margaret M., and two children, Blanche, aged 2 years and Margaret, aged 8 months. Also by six sisters and one brother, as follows: Mrs. H. T. Hudson, Mrs. W. D. Walker, Mrs. M. E. Colyer, all of Altoona, and Misses Laura, Eleanor and Blanche, all at home and David L. Little of this city. The deceased was a member of the Second United Brethren church, being affiliated with that denomination since he was aged 10 years; the Junior Order of Mechanics, No. 486, the B. of L.
