At 1 o'clock yesterday afternoon Edward Lockard, one of the oldest residents of this city, died suddenly at the home of his sister, Mr. Annie O'Neil, 1210 Eighteenth street of diseases incident to old age. He had been ailing for about two weeks previous to his death, though he was able to be about and do chores about the house. About 11 o'clock yesterday he was taken suddenly worse and died at the hour mentioned above. Deceased was born in Sligo county, Ireland, and was about 90 years of age. He came to America in 1854 and to this city in 1879. He was employed as a watchman and sweeper in the Pennsylvania railroad shops until 1895 when he was obliged to relinquish work on account of his age. He was a member of St. John's Catholic church and the Pennsylvania Railroad Relief association and was highly esteemed by all who knew him. He is survived by one son, Robert, and one sister, Mrs. Annie O'Neil. Coroner McCartney was notified of the sudden death and after an investigation decided an inquest unnecessary.
