Lombardo, a resident of the University Park Nursing Center, died Monday afternoon, Feb. 7, 2005, at Mt. Nittany Medical Center, one day before his 93rd birthday. Mr. Lombardo was born Feb. 8, 1912, in Tyrone, son of Guiseppi and Salvatora Cannistraci Lombardo. He was married for 59 years to the former Carmella "Molly" Perri. They were married Jan. 18, 1934, in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Renovo, Pa. His wife preceded him in death in August 1993. Mr. Lombardo graduated from Tyrone High School with the Class of 1930. He attended Carnegie Technical School in Pittsburgh and graduated in 1934 with a degree in business management. He than attended Millersville State College and graduated in 1936 with a degree in culinary arts. For more than 30 years, he and his wife were the owners and operators of the New Americus Hotel in Renovo. In the early 1960s the couple moved to State College where he was the manager of the Boalsburg Steak House and several other restaurants in the State College area until he opened his own restaurant, Mr. T's, in 1968. In 1972 he took a position at Crawford County Vo-Tech School, Meadville, Pa., teaching culinary arts until 1977, when he retired. After retirement Mr. Lombardo, along with his wife, continued his vocation by organizing many charity dinners at Our Lady of Victory Church. They also supervised the school cafeteria there for many years. He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church and was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in State College and was a founder of the Sons of Italy Lodge 149 in Renovo. Mr. Lombardo was a member of a committee formed after the "Great Flood" of 1936 to press for flood control measures along the West Branch of the Susquehanna River. He testified before Congress and played a role in the process which led to the building of Bush Dam at Cross Forks, Pa., north of Renovo. He was one of the originators of the Flaming Foliage Festival, which is held every October in Renovo. He is survived by two brothers, Samuel of Tyrone and Andrea of Audubon, N.J., and seven sisters, Rose Moffa of Tyrone, Nina Magnotta of Mt. Ephraim, N.J.; Antonetta Derewiany of Voorhees, N.J.; Mary Redstreak of Cherry Hill, N.J.; Angelina Waite of Getzville, N.Y.; Josephine Laczkowski of Tucson, Ariz.; Margaret Lombardo of Cherry Hill, N.J. A brother, Joseph, and a sister, Anna Laute, preceded him in death. He is also survived by 26 nephews and 19 nieces. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Feb. 12, at 1 p.m. at Our Lady of Victory Church. Friends and family may call between noon and 1 p.m. at the church. Following the Mass there will be a service in the chapel at Hyner Cemetery in Hyner, Pa., with burial to follow. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Victory Catholic School.
