Mr. Long was apparently in his usual health when stricken, although his health had been somewhat impaired since having his left leg amputated four years ago. Mr. Long had his left foot frosted and gangrene developed and he underwent two operations at the Nason hospital for the removal of the leg. This was successful in stopping the disease and he was apparently in good health since. In 1907, Mr. Long suffered an injury when he was hit in the left eye, which cost him the sight of the optic. He was born at Bakers Summit on May 21, 1851, the son of Joseph and Catharine Long, both deceased, and he grew to young manhood on the Long farm. He was educated in the schools of the community and at the Bedford Normal school and taught school for five terms at Bakers Summit. He then went west and spent eight years in Nebraska and returned to Blair county and opened a store in this city, conducting a grocery store on Eighth avenue for a number of years. Tiring of the strenuous life of a city grocer, Mr. Long sold out and went to Roaring Spring where he conducted a general store for a time and then went to Bakers Summit where he farmed the Long homestead farm from 1905 until he disposed of it two years ago and returned to Roaring Spring to live in retirement. On Sept. 20, 1888, he was united in marriage with Miss Urilla Snowberger, who died two years later. He was married a second time to Miss Elizabeth Detwiler on Jan. 11, 1894, who survives, with the following children: John B. Long of Bakers Summit, Catharine, Grace, Olive, Christie, Ruth and Joseph, jr., all at home, and one grandson, David Long. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Mock of Bakers Summit and six brothers, Jacob of Loysburg, John of Nebraska, Calvin, David, Frank and Charles, all of Roaring Spring. He was a member of the Church of the Brethren and a deacon for many years and held various other offices. Since his return to Roaring Spring, he was affiliated with the local church in which he took an active part. Arrangements for the funeral have not been completed. Altoona Mirror, Altoona, Pa., Tuesday, December 20, 1921 The funeral of Joseph Pote Long, who died suddenly at his home in Roaring Spring on Monday evening following a stroke of paralysis, will take place on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock with services in the Roaring Spring Church of the Brethren in charge of Rev.
