After a few hours illness Mr. Matthew Long, of Ironsville, was summoned to the spirit world, his death taking place between the hours of 4 and 5 o'clock on Tuesday morning from congestion of the lungs. During the entire night previous to his death he received all the attention that medical skill could administer, there being present, through the long night, three of our ablest and most skilled physicians, viz; Drs. Piper, Ewing and Smith. Mr. Long was well known for many miles around, was one of the most generous, hospitable, openhearted men this country could produce. Upon several occasions he had been known to defray the funeral expenses of his poor and needy neighbors himself. When the news of his sad and sudden taking off was announced many of the citizens of the little village shed tears, exclaiming that their best friend was gone. The deceased leaves a family of four children, two boys and two girls, the youngest a girl of about 10 years, who are joined by his many neighbors in mourning his sudden death.
