Last night, George Lotz, a well respected and successful farmer of Sinking Valley, died suddenly of acute indigestion. He had been as well as usual until he ate his supper at 5 o'clock, when he was attacked with a vomiting fit. His symptoms were so alarming that Dr. R. L. Piper was sent for, but before the physician arrived, at 11 o'clock he expired. The deceased was born in Antis township, January 9, 1816, and consequently was over 83 years of age. He was educated in the old subscription schools of his time. October 13, 1840, he married Ann M., daughter of David Fleck, of Tyrone township. He is survived by the following sons and daughters: Mrs. C. E. Fleck, of Hollidaysburg; David M., of near Hollidaysburg; John H. and Harvey, at home, and Edward and Leslie, of Hollidaysburg. The deceased was a member and elder of the Sinking Valley Lutheran church and had always been prominent and active in church circles. He was also prominently identified with the temperance movement. He was a republican in politics and served as collector and as supervisor of Tyrone township. He was a member and past chaplain of grange No. 434, Patrons of Husbandry. Mr. Lotz was always active in the support of any movement for the improvement or prosperity of the community in which he lived. The funeral arrangements cannot at present be announced. Morning Tribune, Friday, June 23, 1899 The funeral obsequies of the late George Lotz, of Sinking Valley, will be held at the Lutheran church, Sinking Valley, Monday morning, June 26, at 10 o'clock.
