MARY BELL AULTS Died yesterday morning at 7.55 o'clock at her home at 434 West Sixteenth street, Tyrone. She was born Sept. 12, 1881, at Royer, a daughter of James A. and Gloria (Wertz) Loudon and was married July 17, 1909, at Tyrone to Arthur B. Aults. Surviving are her husband and the following sisters and brothers: Miss Ruth Elizabeth Loudon of Tyrone, Mrs. Elva (Elda) Calderwood and Mrs. Raymond Wogan of Altoona, Mrs. Melvin Allison of Williamsburg, M. Wilmore Loudon of Tyrone, Philip A. of Altoona, and Lemont A. of Pittsburgh. She was a member of the Columbia Avenue Methodist church. Altoona Mirror, November 24, 1947 _________________________________________ ELIZABETH JANE LOUDEN Mrs. Elizabeth Jane, Wife of Thomas Louden, died at her residence in Woodbury township, at 2 o'clock yesterday morning, aged 68 years. She is survived by her aged husband and eight children, the latter being Mrs. Lucy Likens, wife of ex-superintendent John H. Lykens; James, William, Mrs. Ellen Eicholtz. Mrs. Sallie B. Speilman, Mrs. Maggie Speilman, and Misses Della and Grace Ada. [d. August 28, 1891] _________________________________________ MRS. GLORIA LOUDEN Mrs. Gloria Louden, aged resident of Tyrone, died at her home, No. 15 Lanners street, Tyrone, Sunday morning at 2:25 o'clock, following an extended illness with a complication of diseases. Mrs. Louden was born at Loop, Blair County, on July 26, 1845, the daughter of Solomon and Mary Baughslough Wertz, pioneer residents of this county. On May 23, 1869, she was united in marriage with James A. Louden at the Lutheran church in Williamsburg. She is survived by her husband and these sons and daughters: M. Wilmore Louden, Tyrone; Leeland A. Louden, Pittsburgh; Elizabeth J. Louden, Tyrone; Mrs. J. Howard Calderwood, Altoona; Mrs. Raymond Wogan, Juniata; Mrs. Arthur Aults, Tyrone; Mrs. Melvin Allison, Altoona. Three sons, Philip A., J. Blaine, and Thomas C. Louden, preceded the mother to the grave. She is also survived by 36 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Julia Hileman, Hollidaysburg; Calvin Wertz, Altoona; Phlen [That's what it looks like on the original. Could it be Philip?] Wertz, Iowa; Mrs. Ida Tippery and Miss Luella Wertz, both of Altoona. Mrs. Louden was one of 10 children in the Wertz family, and also had 10 children in her own family. She had been a resident of Tyrone and vicinity for over 45 years. She was faithful member of the Lutheran church for 72 years. The body can be viewed at the Louden home on Lanners street until 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon when it will be removed to the funeral parlors of Fuoss and Glass, Pennsylvania avenue and Twelfth street, where funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Dr. Edward M. Morgan, pastor of the First English Lutheran church. Burial will be made in Grandview cemetery. LOUDEN Mrs. Louden, 73, of Box 448, RD 3, died at 11:45 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, 1987, at Epworth Manor, Tyrone, following an extended illness. She was born Jan 20, 1914, in Morris Township, Huntingdon County, the daughter of Samuel and Charlotta (Skipper) Teeters, and March 20, 1934, in Sinking Valley, married Marion W. Louden. Surviving are her husband, two children: Carl of Las Vagas, Nev., and Carol Marie of Colorado Springs, Colo., and a number of grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers: Carl of Stormstown and Emery of Tyrone. Mrs. Louden was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church, Sinking Valley, where she was a member of the choir and church council. She was also a member of the Sinking Valley Grange and the Tyrone Hospital Auxiliary. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Getz & Searer Funeral Home, Tyrone, and 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the St. John's Lutheran Church. Interment in the church cemetery. Altoona Mirror, August 30 & 31, 1987 _________________________________________ JAMES A. LOUDEN VETERAN TO BE BURIED FRIDAY James A. Loudon, commander of Post 62, G. A. R., and one of the most active members of that organization, died at his home in Mill Creek Wednesday morning. Mr. Loudon was a son of Thomas and Jane Loudon, born at Williamsburg January 7, 1847. At the age of 16 he enlisted in Company D of the Thirteenth cavalry and served in the Shenandoah valley with General Grant in the Army of the Potomac. After the battle of Spottsylvania he was sent into North Carolina and was there until the war ended and order was restored in that state. For many years he was a resident of Altoona but recently had been at Mill Creek. He belonged to Tyrone lodge, No. 172, I. O. O. F. Surviving are five daughters and two sons: Wilmore and Miss Elizabeth Loudon, Mrs., Raymond Wogan, Mrs. Arthur Aultz, Tyrone; Leland Loudon, Pittsburgh; Mrs. Hannah Calderwood, Mrs. Ida Allison, Altoona; four sisters: Mrs. Sally Spealman and Mrs. Grace Sparr, Williamsburg; Mrs. Margaret Spealman, Altoona; Miss Idella Loudon, Pittsburgh. His wife who was Miss Gloria Wertz, Williamsburg, is dead. Funeral service will be held at the home in Mill Creek today at 2 p. m. The body will then be brought to the funeral home of Tobias and Laughlin where it may be viewed this evening and Friday until time for the service, which will be held there at 3 p.m. Friday. The Rev. LOUDEN A guest at the Alexandria Nursing Home, died at 12.30 p.m. yesterday after an extended illness. He was born at Williamsburg RD Sept. 21, 1869, a son of James A. and Gloria (Wertz) Louden. Surviving are two sisters, Miss Elizabeth of Tyrone and Mrs. Ida L. Allison of Williamsburg RD, and several nieces and nephews. He was of the Lutheran faith and was a member of the Neptune Fire and Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Companies of Tyrone and a former employee of the Tyrone plant of West Virginia Pulp & Paper Company, retiring in 1944. Louden, 87, Sinking Valley, Altoona, RD 3, died Monday evening, June 22, 1998, at Tyrone Hospital, following a brief illness. He was born April 18, 1911, in Sinking Valley, the son of J. Blaine and Susan Jane (Detwiler) Louden. He married Hazel A. Teeters March 20, 1934, in Sinking Valley. [At the Presbyterian Manse.] She died Aug. 28, 1987. Mr. Louden was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Sinking Valley. He retired as a dairy farmer in Sinking Valley and was a former Tyrone Township Supervisor. He had been active in the Blair County 4- H program for a number of years and had participated in many Blair County and Penn State agricultural programs. Mr. Louden was a life member of the Sinking Valley Grange, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and the Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Volunteer Fire Company, Tyrone. Surviving are a son, Carl of Las Vegas; a daughter, Carol M. Harris of Arlington, VA; a brother, Eugene Shuey of Sun Lake, Ariz.; a sister Peggy Christine of Tyrone; and several grandchildren. Also surviving are a son-in-law, Jon Harris; and a brother-in-law, David Christine. He was preceded in death by one brother. Interment will be at St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery. BLAINE LOUDON Of 1328 Fifth avenue, died at 5.10 o'clock yesterday afternoon in the Altoona hospital where he was admitted on Monday. He was born in Juniata March 5, 1882, a son of William and Rebecca (Breidenbaugh) Loudon, and married Miss Adessa K. Weidley. Surviving are his wife and two brothers, Dr. Edward W. and W. Hayes Loudon, all of this city. Mr. Loudon was a member of the First Lutheran church and the Altoona Elks. He was a retired coal operator and earlier had engaged in the real estate and insurance business. Friends may call at the Lafferty funeral home after 7 o'clock this evening. Altoona Mirror, January 23, 1957 _________________________________________ EDWARD W. LOUDON Brief Illness Is Fatal for Oldest Doctor Dr. Edward W. Loudon, 89 of 3721 6th Ave., oldest practicing physician in the area and possibly in the country, died at 5.40 p.m. yesterday in Mercy Hospital, where he had been a patient since Jan. 17. He was born in Juniata March 4, 1874, a son of William and Rebecca (Bridenbaugh) Loudon, and was the last surviving child of a family of seven. A graduate of Gettysburg College in 1896, he received he medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, in 1901 and began his practice, in the city after serving his internship in the Altoona Hospital. Dr. Loudon was honored by the Blair County Medical Society in 1952 on the completion of 50 years service and by the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1962 as a "Distinguished Senior Alumnus" at a meeting of the Pennsylvania Medical Society. Along with his private practice, Dr. Loudon served from 1928 to 1935 as medical examiner in the Altoona Tuberculosis Clinic, in 1940 was reappointed and served until his retirement June 1, 1960, as head of the clinic. He served also for many years as medical examiner in the county schools and as chief examiner for the Prudential Insurance Company for a period of 15 years. Dr. Loudon was a member of the Blair County, Pennsylvania and American Medical Societies and the Blair County Tuberculosis and Health Society. Dr. Loudon was a member and an elder of the Ward Avenue United Presbyterian Church for more than a half-century. In 1902 he married Cora Lee Kerlin of the city, who died on June 6, 1946, and on Dec. 24, 1950, married Mrs. LaRue (Shaw) Hays of Hollidaysburg. Surviving are his wife, a step-daughter, Mrs. Richard Treese of Bellwood; two grandchildren, three nephews and one niece. LOUDON Illness Is Fatal To Coal Operator George W. Loudon of 2317 Broad avenue, well known retired coal operator who would have marked his 90th birthday next Tuesday, died at 1 o'clock yesterday afternoon in Mercy hospital where he had been a patient since Tuesday. He was born in Altoona April 19, 1866, a son of John and Elizabeth (Robeson) Loudon, and was united in marriage with Miss Sarah E. Loudon, who died March 31, 1947. Mr. Loudon was a member of Christ Evangelical and Reformed church and the Altoona lodge of Elks. He was active in various civic and business affairs for many years, having served as a member of the select council from the Ninth ward some years ago. Surviving are a half-sister, Mrs. Gertrude Ovelman of Portland, Ore., and a number of nieces and nephews. She was born near Williamsburg, Sept. 12, 1864, a daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Jane (McCauley) Loudon. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Grace Sparr, with whom she made her home, and a number of nieces and nephews. She was a member of Zion Lutheran church, Williamsburg for many years. She was a primary teacher in Huntingdon for a number of years, and later taught in the Pittsburgh schools. Funeral in charge of Rev. Charles Wisler. Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Altoona. Altoona Mirror, November 29, 1944 _________________________________________ SARAH E. (LOUDON) LOUDON Heart Attack Proves Fatal Mrs. Sarah E. Loudon, wife of George W. Loudon of 108 Seventeenth street, died suddenly at her home yesterday of a heart attack, her body being found by her husband when she failed to appear from her bedroom, according to report of Deputy Coroner Edgar G. Walls. She was born in Juniata April 16, 1871, a daughter of William and Rebecca (Bridenbaugh) Loudon, and attended Highland Hall seminary, Hollidaysburg. Mr. and Mrs. Loudon resided for many years at 2112 West Chestnut avenue. Surviving are her husband, one sister and three brothers, Mrs. Molly Winter of Juniata, Dr. Edward Loudon, WE. Hayes and C. Blaine Loudon, all of the city, and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Loudon was a member of Christ Evangelical and Reformed church and of Mrs. A. M. Krick's Bible class. HAYES LOUDON Of 1503 Eighth street died at 1.50 o'clock yesterday afternoon. He was born in Altoona March 7, 1878, a son of William and Rebecca (Bridenbaugh) Loudon. Surviving are one brother, Dr. Edward W. Loudon of Altoona; one niece and three nephews. A brother, C. Blaine Loudon, died six months ago. He was a member of Christ Evangelical Reformed church and was a stockbroker by occupation. Laughlin Funeral Home. Altoona Mirror, July 29, 1957 _________________________________________ WILLIAM LOUDON DIED On the 3d inst., Mr. William Loudon, in the 72d year of his age. Mr. Loudon was one of our well-known citizens. Although he had reached a good old age he was until very lately in possession of excellent health, and died after a few days illness. He was one of the early settlers of Blair county, having moved to this section of country more than 50 years ago. When Altoona was built up to it's borough limits, Mr. Loudon sold a portion of his farm, adjoining on the west for building lots, and soon the town of Loudonsville sprung into existence. He was noted for honesty and generosity towards those with whom he had business transactions, and many who are now the possessors of comfortable homes, bear testimony to his liberality. He had much bodily pain before his death, yet expressed himself comfortable, as he cheered others, with his faith in the consolations of the Gospel. GRACE ADDA SPARR Of 620 West Second street, Williamsburg, died at 4.48 o'clock this morning in the Altoona Hospital where she had been a patient since Aug. 20. She was born at Williamsburg, R. D., June 10, 1870, a daughter of Thomas and Jane (McCauley) Loudon, and on April 7, 1898, married Harry A. Sparr, who died in 1916. Surviving are one son, Edgar C., with whom she resided; two grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Sparr was a life member of Zion Lutheran Church, Williamsburg, had served for many years as secretary of the Women's Missionary society, and earlier as a teacher in the Sunday School. Spealman, died at her late home in Williamsburg on Saturday morning, April 17, 1943, at 1:15 o'clock. She was a daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Jane (McCauley) Louden, deceased, and was born at Sabbath Rest, Blair County, Pa., on June 7, 1856, hence she was aged at the time of death 86 years, 10 months, and 10 days. She was a well known and highly respected citizen of the Williamsburg community. She was a consistent member of Zion Lutheran Church of Williamsburg, the Women's Missionary Society and the Bible Class. She was faithful in her church activities until illness prevented her from attending. Surviving is one son, Charles E. Spealman, of Huntingdon. Also surviving are two sisters: Miss Idella Louden and Mrs. Grace Sparr, both of Williamsburg. Funeral services will be held at her late home in Williamsburg on Monday at 3:15 p.m., in charge of the Rev. Charles Wisler. Interment in the Presbyterian Cemetery at Williamsburg will be directed by Owen Bechtel's Funeral Service.
