All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _________________________________________ WILLIAM LOUDON, One of Blair county's oldest and most esteemed residents, died at his home, near Juniata, on Sunday evening at 6 o'clock, of bronchial pneumonia, aged 73 years and 3 months. He had been ill for the past six weeks. The deceased was born on the site where Altoona now stands, June 30, 1826, and was the son of William, sr., and Sarah (Matthews) Loudon. He was reared on his father's farm and educated in the common schools. He was engaged in farming until 1857, when he went west. He spent two years in Nebraska farming and then, in the spring of 1859, went to Colorado, where he engaged in gold mining for four years. He then returned to Logan township, where he has since followed farming. In 1864 he was married to Miss Rebecca Bridenbaugh, of Sinking Valley, and to this union have been born seven children. Mr. Loudon was quiet and unassuming and was a man of noble and generous character. He was beloved and trusted by all who knew him. He had been a member of the board of school directors of Logan township for over twenty-four years and was prominently identified with various business interests in Blair county, being also a large real estate holder. In politics Mr. Loudon had always been a Republican. He is survived by two daughters and five sons, as follows: Mrs. L. A. Winter, of Juniata; Miss Sarah Loudon, at home; M. G., of Patterson, N.J., E. W., at home; G. W., at home; H. W., of Pittsburg, and C. B., at home. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. J. W. Moyer, will be held at the residence on Wednesday at 2 p.m., after which interment will be made in Fairview cemetery. Altoona Mirror, Monday, September 4, 1899, page 8
