Robert Lowry of Davenport, Iowa, was killed in a Rail Road Disaster - On the 1st inst., as an excursion train on the Atchison and Nebraska rail road, composed of eighteen cars, filled with people, was on its way from Lincoln to Atchison, the occasion being the formal opening of the railroad bridge over the Missouri river at the latter city, and when within seven miles of Atchison, one of the trucks of the tender broke and immediately the tender, baggage cars, and two coaches went over on their sides. Charles Lowry, second son of R. Lowry, formerly of this place, and a man named Edward Macumber were on a platform with others, and all jumped for their lives. Lowry and Macumber were caught by the car, which fell on them and crushed them to death. They were the only persons killed, although several others were wounded. Charles Lowry was in his 26th year - born in Allegheny city, Pa., February 3, 1850, he had his residence in Lincoln, Neb., where for he last three or four years he was engaged in the land office of the Burlington and Missouri railroad Company, but latterly has been keeping a hat and cap store in Lincoln.
