All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ Died Yesterday Afternoon. Mrs. W. J. Luther, nee Lettie Blanche Wingate, died at the home of her grandmother, Mrs. C. R. Burley, on Lincoln avenue yesterday afternoon at 3.30 o'clock, from pulmonary consumption having been afflicted for a little more than a year. She was the only child of William Wingate whose tragic death occurred on the 5th of July, 1872, and Mrs. Sarah Wingate who died July 5, 1875, exactly three years later. It is a singular coincidence that the death of the daughter also occurs in July. Mrs. Blanchard Wingate Luther was born in Tyrone on the 15th of January, 1873, and was therefore 21 years, 6 months and seven days old when she died. She was married to W. J. Luther of Johnstown, Pa., on the 10th of March last. On account of illness she remained at the home of her grandmother until the first of the present month when her husband took her to the home of his parents at Johnstown seemingly in a much improved condition. She remained there, however, but eleven days. Being informed of the fact by her physician, that early death was inevitable, she expressed a desire to return to the home of her grandmother, where and by whom she had been reared from a mere child. Her wish was complied with, and she was brought back to Tyrone. Feeling strong enough to stand the trip, accompanied by Mrs. Madge Givler, her aunt and life-long associate, she made a trip to the country last Thursday expecting to remain several days, and hoping to be benefitted, but her condition did not seem to justify remaining and she returned home the same evening. She returned in a very weak and feeble condition, and continued to sink until death relieved her from suffering as above stated. Her grandfather, C. R. Burley, who almost worshipped his granddaughter Blanche, died in November, 1892. Blanche, as everyone knew her, was a cheerful, bright and popular girl, and the host of friends of herself and devoted family, join in sincere regret and sympathy in this sad visitation of affliction and death. Deceased was a member of the English Lutheran church. The funeral will be held on Wednesday morning, services conducted by her pastor, Rev. F. L. Bergstresser at 10 o'clock at the home of Mrs. Burley. Interment in Tyrone cemetery. Tyrone Daily Herald, Tyrone, Pa., Monday, July 23, 1894, page 4
