All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _________________________________________ Nathan Lytle Nathan Lytle, aged 91, one of Blair county's well known and oldest citizens' a retired farmer who at various times resided in Altoona, died this morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Carrie Gates at Homewood, near Tyrone. He had been in fair health until recent months. Nathan Lyle was born in Decatur township, Mifflin county, Jan. 26, 1852. He began his farm career at the age of 10 years and at 17 years he learned the trade of wagonmaker which he followed in connection with farming. The greater part of his life was spent in farming and for some years he was located at three Culverts just west of the city. Later he farmed in the vicinity of Williamsburg and in Sinking Valley. Mr. Lytle was twice married, first to Mary F. Newcomer of Mifflin county on March 8, 1875. She died on Feb. 22, 1911. On May 25, 1913 he married Mrs. Clara E. Steward, who died in September 1925. Mr. Lytle attended the Lutheran church since he was 10 years of age. Mr. Lytle was the father of ten children, the following surviving: Mrs. Carrie Gates of Homewood near Tyrone, Mrs. Odessa Harpster of Tipton, Mrs. Bertha Gherdes of Altoona, Mrs. Florence Shaffer of Tyrone, Mrs. Virginia Johnson, W. D. Lytle and Ira Lytle of Altoona and Lawrence Lytle of Janesville. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Rebecca McCollom, and a brother, Benjamin Lytle of Port Royal, PA. The body may be viewed at the Mauk and Yates funeral home after 7 o'clock this evening.
