WIDOW OF CITY CIVIC LEADER DIES AT HOME

  Mrs. Mabel C. MacCartney, widow of Benjamin F. MacCartney, long prominent in 
the civic life of Altoona, died this morning at the family home, 1819, Thirteen 
street.
  She was born at Hamilton, Jefferson county, Aug 31, 1874, a daughter of 
Senator James G. Mitchell and Mrs. Caroline (Neel) Mitchell.  Mr. MacCartney 
died on Oct 5,1944.
  Surviving are two sons and one daughter, Mrs. Harvey D. Ahlborn and John C. 
MacCartney, both of Wilkes-Barre, and Mitchell MacCartney of the city, and 
three grandchildren.
  Mrs. MacCartney was a member of the First Presbyterian church, the DAR and 
Jobel court 11, Ladies Oriental Shrine.  Friends may call at the Lafferty 
funeral home this evening.  Interment in Alto Reste burial park.
