Death of One of Altoona's oldest Citizens Tuesday Afternoon. Mr. John Mackey, an aged and respected citizen of this city, after a long and patient illness, incident to those whose years are numbered beyond the three score and ten, passed over to the other side of the dark river on Tuesday afternoon - his death occurring at about half- past 4 o'clock. Mr. Mackey was born in Path Valley, Huntingdon county, in the year 1802, and if he had lived till Sunday next, the 22d inst., would have been 84 years of age. Until the age of 16 he resided with his parents in Path Valley, and then was apprenticed to the cabinet-maker trade in the town of Masseysburg, Huntingdon county. After he had finished his trade he went to Bellefonte, where he was engaged in the cabinet making business for a number of years. During his residence there he was married to Miss Annie Flack, of near Bellefonte, and to them were born five children, all of whom are now living. Their names are: Mr. M. H. Mackey, contractor and builder of this city; Mrs. Mary E. Malone, residing in California; Mrs. Jane E. McCoy, Mr. William T. Mackey and Mrs. Cellie A. Fraker - the last named residing in Altoona. Mr. Mackey, was twice married, his second wife being Elizabeth Kridler, whom he married about the year 1848, and who survives him. No children were born to this union. About fourteen years ago the deceased removed from Bellefonte to this city, and had since that time made his home with his oldest son, Mr. M. H. Mackey. As already intimated, no specific disease could be ascribed as the cause of Mr. Mackey's death, but simply a wearing out and final breakdown of the system. He was raised a Presbyterian and held to that faith through life, but owing to inability to be present at church service during the latter years of life had not connected himself with any church in this city. He was a quiet, unassuming old gentleman and commanded the respect and good will of all those with whom he was brought in contact. The funeral will take place from the residence of Mr. M. H. Mackey, 805 Eighth avenue, on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment in Fairview cemetery. Altoona Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Thursday, August 19, 1886, page 3
