All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _______________________________________________ ISAAC MAINES Isaac Maines, one of the best known old residents of the Sixth ward, died last evening at 8 o'clock, in the home of his son, William T., 808 Eighteenth street, of a complication of diseases incident to advanced years. He had been in ill health for several years but had been confined to his room for only six weeks. The deceased was born at Barree, Huntingdon county, on February 2, 1836, and was brought to what is now Blair county when he was 1 year old. He had been a resident of Altoona about forty years. The deceased worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad company in his early life, was in business for a time and then became a drayman, doing work for John A. Canan. For seventeen years past he had lived a retired life. Mr. Maines served three years, nine months and eighteen days in the Civil war, having been a member of company K, Eighty-fourth Pennsylvania Volunteers. He was wounded in the left side at the battle of Antietam. The deceased was a member of the Lutheran church. His wife, Anna J., nee Hart, died in March, 1908. Surviving are the following children: John Howard, Alexander P., David Ellsworth, Wallace Eugene, Charles Edgar, William T., and Margaret. There are also five grandchildren and one great-grandchild, together with three brothers - Ellis, John and Daniel, all of Clearfield. The funeral arrangements will be announced later.
