He was born in Roaring Spring, Pa. He was preceded in death by brothers: Dan and Paul Mapes. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Ruth Mapes of Hemet; children: Joanna (Mapes) Marley and husband, Mark, of Homeland, Calif., and Debbie (Mapes) Padilla and husband, Cruz, of Shingle Springs, Calif.; four grandchildren; sisters: Mabel Keagy and Betty Dick, and brothers: Tim Mapes and Carl Mapes, all of Roaring Spring. He served in the U.S. Army as a corporal during WWII. He will be truly missed by all that knew and loved him. Friends will be received from 9 a.m. to noon Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, at Miller-Jones Mortuary & Cremations Inc., 1501 W. Florida Ave., Hemet, Calif. A funeral service will be held at 1:45 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, at Riverside National Cemetery, Staging area 4, Riverside, Calif., with interment at Riverside National Cemetery.
