MAPES Well known resident of Rodman, died at the Nason hospital in Roaring Spring Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, death being attributed to pneumonia. He was a son of Isaac and Susan (Hanley) Mapes and was born at Rodman, on Jan. 14, 1883. His parents both died when he was but 8 months old and he was reared in the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Albright, also now deceased. Mr. Mapes served twenty years in the United States marine corps, four years of which were spent in China and at his retirement fourteen years ago was in the recruiting service. He was united in marriage with Beula Scott, who survives, with these children: Joseph jr., Daniel, Mabel, Paul, Carl and Betty Ann, all at home, and four sisters, Mrs. Al Bridenbaugh of Roaring Spring, Mrs. Andrew Geist of Martinsburg, Miss Hannah Mapes of Hollidaysburg and Mrs. Elizabeth Fluke of Breezewood, and one half-brother, Samuel Woomer of Altoona, and three foster sisters, Mrs. Lorenzo Helsel and Mrs. P.B. Dick of Roaring Spring and Mrs. Collins Treese of Altoona. Mr. Mapes operated a restaurant and gasoline station at Rodman. Funeral services were conducted this afternoon.
