Mapes, 64, 734 Sugar St., Roaring Spring, died Thursday evening, Oct. 9, 1997, at Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring. He was born March 9, 1933, in Roaring Spring RD, the son of Joseph and Beulah (Scott) Mapes. He married Donna D. Ray Nov. 9, 1952, in Martinsburg RD. Mr. Mapes attended Faith Assembly of God Church, Roaring Spring. He retired from the blacktop division of New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co., Roaring Spring, in July 1991, after 38 years of service. Mr. Mapes attended the Scotland School of Veterans Children, Chambersburg. He enjoyed hunting, all sports and citizens band radio. He served as a referee for the Garver Memorial YMCA Basketball Program. Mr. Mapes was a member of the Friendship Volunteer Fire Company, Roaring Spring, and the Quarter Century Club and Teamsters Local at New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co. Surviving are his wife; three sons: Douglas P. of Milton, Joseph D. of Altoona and Richard D. of Bloomsburg; a daughter, Sharlene L. Sottile of Roaring Spring; three brothers: Joseph F. in California, Carl E. of Lakemont and Timothy L. of Roaring Spring; two sisters: Mabel M. Keagy and Betty A. Dick, both of Roaring Spring; and 11 grandchildren. MAPES - Funeral services for Paul H. Mapes of 734 Sugar St., Roaring Spring, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Faith Assembly of God Church, Roaring Spring, by Pastor Anthony L. Baker. Interment at Greenlawn Cemetery, Roaring Spring. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at J. Gary Thompson Funeral Home, Roaring Spring. Memorial contributions may be given to a charity of your choice.
