Last evening at 6:30 o'clock, Merrill T., the only son of Mrs. Ella B. Mardis, died at the residence of his mother, 403 Eight avenue. The deceased was but 15 years of age, and, being the only boy in the family, was greatly beloved, more especially as his father, Dr. T. C. Mardis, had preceded him to the grave some years ago. He had been employed in the Atlantic and Pacific tea store, and on Wednesday last after mounting the counter to reach a high shelf, stepped to the floor. Shortly after he complained of a pain in the stomach, and later in the day was taken sick. The physicians called in to attend him, found that he was suffering from a form of peritonitis, which, despite all care and treatment finally caused his death. He was an attendant at the Second United Brethren church and was always spoken of as a boy destined to grow into a respected manhood. He is survived by his mother and one sister, Miss Ella Mardis.
