Jacob Markel died at the home of his son, Dr. A. R. Markel, 817 West Washington avenue, Saturday morning at 9 o'clock of infirmities incident to old age, having been ill the past seven weeks. The deceased was born at York, Pa., March 4, 1819, and at death was aged 82 years, 2 months and 28 days. He had resided for several years in Nittany and Penn's valleys and for the pasty forty-five years had made his home at Pine Grove Mills, Centre county. He came to the home of his son April 7 last. His wife, Eliza Duffey Markel, died October 2, 1900. Surviving are the following sons and daughters: John H. Markel, of Bellwood; James Calvin Markel and Mrs. Sarah J. Warner, of Grazierville; Dr. A. R. Markel, of Tyrone, and Mrs. Charlotte M. Kepler, of Pine Grove Mills. Two brothers also survive, viz: John Markel, of Bellefonte, and Samuel Markel, of Gatesburg, Centre county. Mr. Markel was a stonemason by occupation and a member of the Lutheran church at Pine Grove Mills. A short funeral service was held last evening at 6:45 at the home of Dr. A. R. Markel, Rev. F. L. Bergstresser officiating. This morning the remains will be placed on board the Tyrone and Lewisburg train and taken to Pennsylvania Furnace, and from there conveyed to Pine Grove Mills, where funeral services will be conducted by deceased's pastor, Rev.
