MARKEY [photo] Former Local Resident Dies In Meadville Christ R. Markey, 81, for many years a familiar figure about 12th Ave., and 11th St., in connection with his employment by the Altoona & Logan Valley Electric Railway Company, died at 11 p.m. yesterday in the Spencer Hospital, Meadville. He had resided for the past four years with a son, Virgil G., at 861 Liberty St., Meadville, having retired from the traction company service on Oct. 15, 1948. He was born in the Sylvan Hills area Oct. 11, 1881, a son of Christian and Frances Markey, and had resided there until going to Meadville. He was a member of the Hollidaysburg Brethren Church. Surviving are three children, Mrs. Theda Elliott and Mrs. Louella Briggs of Wilmington, Calif., and Virgil of Meadville, a number of grandchildren, great- and great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Markey entered the service of the Logan Valley Company May 19, 1900, in charge of the lawns and flower beds at Lakemont Park, transferred to the car barns as a mechanic in 1903 and in 1917 became inspector and emergency man working out of the city office of the company.
