Long Illness is Fatal to Wife of City Councilman

  Mrs. Margaret C. Martin, wife of City Councilman Joseph S. Martin of 
1510 Twelfth street died Saturday evening after an extended illness in 
Mercy Hospital where she had been a patient since March 13.
  She was born in Altoona Feb 13, 1904, a daughter of Harry W. and 
Matilda (Devender) McCartney, and was united in marriage with Mr. 
Martin, July 29, 1940.
  A graduate of the Birmingham school for Girls and Miss Ilman's 
Kindergarten school, Philadelphia, she had conducted a kindergarten in 
the city for some years prior to her marriage.  Mrs. Martin was a 
member of the First Methodist church, the Hi-Try Bible class, Altoona 
Woman's club and the Order of Eastern Star.
  Surviving are her husband, her mother and an aunt, Miss Augusta 
Devender of the city.
  Friends are being received at the Laughlin funeral home.
