At half-past 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon Mrs. Nancy Martin, an aged resident, died at the home of her son-in-law, Mr. William Winnaugle, No. 1210 Seventeenth avenue, after a brief illness. On last Thursday morning, while in the act of closing an umbrella Mrs. Martin received a slight scratch on one of her fingers. At the time but little notice was taken of the slight accident, but the next morning it was discovered that the hand and arm were swollen and discolored. A physician was called and, despite his endeavors, erysipelas and gangrene intervened and the advanced age of the patient precluded any hope of her recovery. On Saturday evening she was in a semi-conscious condition and the disease continued its inroads upon her vitality until, at the hour stated above, death relieved her of her sufferings and she was summoned by Him whom she had served from her youth up. Mrs. Martin was in the 79th year of her age and was born near Duncansville. Her husband, John R. Martin, died four years ago in March. For a number of years Mr. and Mrs. Martin resided in Hollidaysburg, where they were well known and where the news of the aged lady's death will be received with sadness. She was life-long member of the Lutheran church and at the time of her death was a member of the First church of Altoona. The following children survive the death of an ever kind mother: Mrs. William Winnaugle, of Altoona; Mrs. David Sellers and Mrs. Jacob Snyder, of Hollidaysburg; Mrs. Andrew McClellan, of Galeon, Ohio; Mrs. Daniel Carner, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio; Mrs. John Roberts, of Urbano, Ohio; and Mr. Claudius Martin, of Indiana.
