All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _________________________________________ ALOIS MASCHKE Alois Maschke, prominent Tyrone citizen and a retired employee of the Pennsylvania Railroad company, died at his home, 203 East Twelfth street. Tyrone, this morning at 3:30 o'clock following an illness of seven days with pneumonia. Alois Maschke was a son of Joseph and Elizabeth Maschke and was born at Schanau, Germany, on June 21, 1857. Mr. Maschke came to America in 1880, and had since that time, been a highly esteemed resident of Tyrone. On March 2, 1886, at Tyrone, he was united in marriage with Miss Mary Schell, who survives, together with the following children: Joseph C. Maschke, G. A. Maschke, A. E. Maschke and Miss Anna Maschke, all of Tyrone. Mr. Maschke was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic church, the P.R.R. Relief association and the P.R.R. Retired Men's association. Mr. Maschke, prior to his retirement in 1926, had been employed as a carpenter by the Pennsylvania Railroad company, his service extending over a period of forty years. A swimmer of exceptional ability, Mr. Maschke for many years was swimming instructor at the Y.M.C.A. Athletic park during the summer months. Even to the date of his retirement, when he was seventy years old, Mr. Maschke was most active and still participated in swimming activities. Hundreds of Tyrone people learned to swim under Mr. Maschke's instructions. He was also in charge of the bowling alleys at the Tyrone Y.M.C.A. for many years. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday morning at nine o'clock at St. Matthew's Catholic church, conducted by Rev. Father James A. Tolan, followed by burial in Oak Grove cemetery.
