DEATH OF A CHILD.  

  Sarah Margaret, daughter of Wilbur B. and Ella Mattern, of 2401 
Seventh avenue, died yesterday morning at the home of her grandparents, 
Mr. and Mrs. William R. Way, in Half Moon valley, aged 1 year and 3 
months.  Mr. and Mrs. Mattern had gone to the homes of their parents to 
enjoy their Christmas.  Mr. Mattern returned to his work in the city on 
Tuesday morning.  In the evening he was summoned to the telephone and 
notified that his daughter was very sick.  He returned by first train, 
but only to find the child he had left but twenty-four hours before in 
fairly good health, lying cold in the embrace of death.
