The funeral of Laurence Matthews took place from his late residence, Fourth avenue, between Seventh and Eighth streets, Friday morning at 8 o'clock. The subject of the above notice was a native of Newry, this county. He had been employed in the Pennsylvania Railroad Company's freight shop for a number of years, and was for a long time leader of the Altoona City Band, and it was partially through his efforts that it gained the reputation that it now enjoys. He was also a member of Professor Myers' orchestra, as a cornet player. His friends are numerous, and all lovers of music will sadly miss the sweet notes of Larry's cornet. May he rest in peace.
