Josephine Mattis, wife of Joseph Mattis, died suddenly of heart disease at the family residence, No. 1111 Eighteenth avenue, about 10 o'clock yesterday morning. Mrs. Mattis arose and proceeded to do her usual household duties, being apparently in the best of health. Some time afterward one of her children, a little boy, came down stairs and after being seated comfortably at the stove the mother went upstairs to get his apparel. Her stay was prolonged and the little one made search, only to find his mother prostrate in an upper room. Then, as best he could, he gave the alarm, and to this the neighbors responded. A physician who was summoned stated that death was undoubtedly the result of heart disease, and Coroner Poet, who was afterward called in, after making an investigation, deemed that no inquest was necessary. Mr. Mattis is supposed to have died at about 10 o'clock. The deceased was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Hannigan, of Hollidaysburg, and was born December 20, 1865. She was therefore aged at the time of her death 25 years, 6 months and 7 days. Her sorrowing husband is left to mourn his loss, and she also leaves two children, a son and a daughter. Two brothers and two sisters also survive, these being William P., Edward and Catharine, of Hollidaysburg, and Elizabeth, wife of William Sickles, of Philipsburg. The deceased was an estimable Christian lady and a devoted wife and mother. The funeral will take place at 2 o'clock on Sunday afternoon from the family residence, and the interment will be made in Fairview cemetery. Morning Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Saturday, March 28, 1891
