MAYNE George E. Mayne, a former well known hotel man of the county died at his home in Altoona, Friday afternoon last, after an illness of but a few days from pleuro-pneumonia. He contracted a cold a week prior to his death, on Friday while mowing his yard and on Wednesday of last week was compelled to take his bed, his death following at the time above stated. George Mayne was the son of Alex. and Mary (deceased) Mayne and was born at McConnellsburg, Fulton county, April 29, 1863. While a young man he was engaged as a clerk in the Arlington, hotel at Tyrone and at the Brant house, Altoona. Later he purchased the American house at Hollidaysburg and for a number of years successfully conducted that well known hotel. Mr. Mayne was well known by the people of the county who had occasion to transact business at the county capital. Eleven years ago he sold his interests in the hotel and engaged in the realty and mortgage business in Altoona. He was united in marriage to Miss Ella White of Altoona, March 19, 1892. She with three daughters survive: Mrs. Clara Harper, of Mifflin; Misses Olivett and Ella May, at home. Four brothers and two sisters also survive: Samuel E. Mayne and Thomas Mayne, of Duncannon; Frank, of Shelby, Iowa; Rev. Charles, of Griswold, Iowa; Mrs. Minnie Buckley, of Shelby, Iowa; and Miss Anna, at home with her father at Fort Littleton, Fulton county. Two weeks ago the entire family was called to the father's home because of his illness, and it was only last week that all returned to their homes. The father, who is 85 years of age, recuperated from his ailments. Services were held at the house Monday afternoon at 3:45 o'clock. Interment in the mausoleum in Fairview cemetery, Altoona.
