Truly "in the midst of life we are in death," and how forcibly do the providences we are this week called upon to record, admonish us all of the importance of being ready for the solemn change to which we are all doomed. - On Friday afternoon last, Mr. John M'Cabe, long and favorably known as Assistant Manager and Book Keeper at Portage Iron Works, was in town in his accustomed health, though laboring under an affection of the heart which had troubled him for a number of years past. In the evening he started home in his buggy, having with him his little son, some 10 or 12 years of age. and his own venerable mother. When they got up as far as the Junction, the Freight train from Altoona came thundering along; and it is supposed the apprehension that his horse would frighten and run away so excited the action of his heart that he was overcome, and falling back into the embrace of his mother, with the remark that he was "very sick," he expired on the spot. He was about 40 years of age, and leaves a disconsolate widow, with a family of seven children, to mourn their bereavement.
