Mr. McCarthy was a son of the late Florence McCarthy, who died about 14 years ago. His mother, Mrs. Margaret McCarthy, still lives at 1900 Somerset avenue. The deceased was a mechanic for the Berwind-White Company before going into business for himself about a year ago. He was born in Houtzdale but had lived at this place for 17 years. Mr. McCarthy was married almost two years ago to Miss Verna Weyandt of Shanksville, who survives him. There are two brothers Michael and Florence McCarthy of this place, and two sisters, Mrs. H. T. Veil of Johnstown, and Mrs. Robert Maher of Hostetter. There are three half-brothers: Charles and John McCarthy of Pittsburgh, and Charles Morgan of Youngstown, O., and four half-sisters: Mrs. William McCana and Mrs. John McCartan of Cresson, Mrs. Mary Flanagan of Clearfield, and Mrs. A. J. Alcorn of Pittsburgh. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning in St. Anthony's Catholic church. Interment was in St. Joseph's cemetery in Geistown. Martinsburg Herald, March 12, 1915
