All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _________________________________________ Leeman McCartney Dies at his Home in Oregon Leeman McCartney, a former resident of this city,, died at his home at The Dalles, on the Columbia river, Oregon, on Oct, 6 and was buried in the Odd Fellow's cemetery at the place on Oct. 8. Mr. McCartney was the son of David and Sarah (Coleman) McCartney and was born in this county. He was aged 74 years and 10 months. In 1876, he went to Oregon, settling in Albany, where he served for a number of years as chief of police. He was married there and moved to The Dalles where he engaged in farming, fruit growing and stock raising. During the Indian uprisings after the Civil war, he served his country as a soldier to help quell the Indians. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Emma McCartney and one son, Dalles, and these brothers and sisters: Allen McCartney of Alexandria, Pa., Morrison of Pittsburgh, Mrs. Sarah Gregory of Akron O., Mrs. Jessie Armintage of Colorado. Mr. McCartney resided in a beautiful home overlooking the Columbia river. Clarence Dougherty of Dysart, and family visited the McCartney family during a tour of the northwest, last summer and spent a delightful visit. Death was caused by apoplexy.
