Ambrose McClain, one of the most prominent farmers of Sinking Valley, died at the old McClain homestead on Wednesday, Jan. 27, at twenty minutes after six o'clock. He had been in poor health for some time and about two weeks ago was stricken with heart trouble, a contributory cause of death. The deceased was the son of Thomas and Mary McClain, two early settlers of Sinking Valley who has also passed beyond. He was born May 28, 1848, and was therefore aged 60 years, 7 months and 29 days. Being a native of the valley, Mr. McClain was known by everyone and held in high esteem by hosts of friends who will mourn his death. He was never married. One sister, Mary J., and two brothers, Philip N. and James, all at home survive. He has been a member of St. Matthew's Catholic church of Tyrone, all his life and his life has been lived according to the teachings of that faith. The funeral cortege left his late home Saturday morning at 9.30 o'clock, proceeded to the Sinking Valley Catholic church where solemn requiem mass was solemnized. Rev. Gregory M. Kelly, of St. Matthew's church, of tyrone, was in charge of the services. Interment was made in the cemetery adjoining the church. Tyrone Herald, Tyrone, Pa., February 4, 1909
