McClain, age 87, of 510 W. Fourth Street, Tyrone, died Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at 4:30 p.m. at his residence. He was born May 28, 1918 in Robertsdale, the son of Norman and Jessie Henry McClain. He was first married to Marie Yarger who preceded him in death. On November 7, 1953 at Altoona, he was married to Miriam Huston who survives. Also surviving are four children: Dawn Ellen, wife of Scott Maxwell of Indialantic, FL; Lynne, wife of Michael Starr of Altoona; Andrea, wife of Lt. Colonel Frank Schneck, retired of Prince George, VA and R. Michael McClain and wife Deborah of Hollidaysburg; six grandchildren: Brian Maxwell, Heather (Rich) Tyner, Jonathan (Sabrina) McClain, Ashley McClain, Lindsay (Steve) Miksich and Matthew Schneck and two great-grandchildren: Cassidy Miksich and Arielle Tyner. He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister. Dr. McClain was a graduate of Huntingdon High School class of 1937, of Juniata College and of the University of Pennsylvania School of Dentistry where he received his D.D.S. degree. He operated his own dental practice in Tyrone for a number of years and retired May 5, 1990. He was a veteran of service in World War II, serving as a Captain in the U.S. Army Dental Corps, Fifth Replacement Depot with service in the Philippines. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church where he had served as an usher and Sunday school teacher. He was a member of the American Dental Society and past president of the Blair County Dental Society. He had served on the Board of Directors of the Tyrone YMCA, was a member and past president of the Tyrone Rotary Club from which he received his 50-year membership pin in 2002. He was a member of B.P.O.E. No. 212, Howard Gardner Post No. 281 American Legion and Lodge No. 494 F & AM. He had served as a Cub Scout leader of Pack 101 and had been a member of the Selective Service Board in Tyrone for a number of years. Funeral service for Dr. Richard W. McClain will be Saturday, March 11, 2006 at noon at Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Dennis Gable officiating. Interment with flag presentation will follow in Blair Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc. on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of service.
