During the inquest, several facts were made known which clearly proved beyond the shadow of a doubt, that the unfortunate man was considerably intoxicated at the time of his sudden death. A bottle filled with rum was found on his body. Another, broken evidently at the time he was struck, lay at his side. He was struck near the west end of No. 13, Cold Spring bridge, near Grazierville. He was killed by Spruce Creek work train, and his remains were interred at Charlottsville at 10 a.m. Monday morning last. In reality it was the infernal rum that killed him, at the ripe age of 68 years.
