McCONNELL, Whose illness has been frequently referred to in these columns, died at 9:10 o'clock last evening of paralysis of the brain, at the home of his sister, Mrs. Mary McIntosh, 949 Seventeenth street. Mr. McConnell was born in Hollidaysburg, January 29, 1851, and was quite young when he was brought to this city by his mother. He learned the trade of a machinist, in the Altoona shops, and was foreman of the frame gang in the erecting department when, in 1864, he accepted the position of master mechanic of the Norfolk and Western shops in Roanoke, Va. In 1889 he resigned this position and had since been engaged as a contracting and real estate dealer in Roanoke. On July 13, he arrived in this city on a visit to his relatives, and three weeks later he was suddenly stricken with the disease that caused his death. Mr. McConnell enjoyed a wide acquaintance in the city and county, and his untimely death will be sincerely regretted by hosts of friends. The blow is a particularly severe one to his aged mother. On February 21, 1884, the deceased was married to Miss Rosie O'Donnell, who was killed in Roanoke four years later by a stone thrown from a stone quarry by a blast. Besides his mother, he leaves one brother, William T. McConnell, and one sister, Mrs. Mary McIntosh, all of this city. Mr. McConnell was a member of the Catholic church. He also belonged to the Roanoke branch of the Order of Elks. The funeral will take place at 8:30 o'clock Saturday morning. Requiem mass will be celebrated at the Sacred Heart Catholic church. Interment in St. John's cemetery. Altoona Mirror, Altoona, Pa., September 19, 1895
