Funeral Sunday. The news of the death of Miss Clara McCormick, of West Fifteenth Street, at the home of her sister in Sinking Valley, came as distinct shock, not only to her host of friends living in Tyrone, but to her many friends living in Sinking Valley and the surrounding community. Miss McCormick, who resided with her sister, Mrs. Mary McGovern on West Fifteenth Street, had been called to the home of her sister, Mrs. Laura B. Wertz, of Culp, Sinking Valley, about a month ago to assist in the care of her nephew, William Wertz, who was ill with pneumonia. She seemed quite well until last Friday when she became ill with the grip which resulted in heart failure, causing her death at 8.30 o'clock Wednesday morning. Miss McCormick's remains were brought to Tyrone at noon on Wednesday and taken to her late home, at 320 West Fifteenth Street, where funeral services were held at 10 o'clock Saturday morning, conducted by Reverend H. W. Bieber, of the First Presbyterian Church. Interment was made at Arch Spring. Miss Clara J. McCormick was the daughter of William and Margaret McCormick, deceased, and was born April 1, 1861, at the old McCormick homestead in Sinking Valley, Pa. The greater part of her life was spent in Sinking Valley. The past nine years she resided in Tyrone. Miss McCormick was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian church and an active member of the Sunday school. She was most faithful and found much pleasure in doing work for the Master. She was a person of forceful, though quiet character, known and loved by a large circle of friends as the embodiment of kindness and helpfulness. She is survived by the following brothers and sisters: William G.; Mrs. Amanda C. Fleck; and Mrs. Laura E. Wertz, of Sinking Valley; Mrs. Sarah A. France, of Altoona; Mrs. Mary M. McGovern; and Harry L. McCormick of Tyrone. The Tyrone Herald, Tyrone, Pa., February 18, 1915, page 5
