McCracken, one of the substantial citizens of that town, died at 11 o'clock Friday morning of indigestion. Mr. McCracken had been in frail health for a long time, but the end came rather suddenly and was a great shock to the community, especially so soon after the death of Banker R. L. Scott, both men being members of the Presbyterian church and prominently connected with the town's interests. George Henry McCacken [sic] was born at Elizabethtown, N.J., March 15, 1876, a son of William and Rachel McCracken. He was a veteran of United States service in Cuba, the Philippines and also in China during the Boxer rebellion. In 1904 he was united in marriage to Miss Jennie Jeffries and since that time had been a resident of Bellwood. He was a machinist by trade and had been employed at the Kerbaugh plant and later by the Pennsylvania Railroad company. For six years he had not worked at his trade, but was always active, even when his health would scarce permit. He was a member of the Presbyterian church, a faithful every day Christian, kindly in heart and life. He belonged to the Bellwood lodge of Odd Fellows and Maccabees, to the Y.M.C.A. and the Chamber of Commerce. For several years he had served the borough as assessor. Surviving are his wife, his father, William McCracken, a brother William, and four sisters - Mrs. Fred Cron, Misses Flora and Jennie, all of Elizabethtown and Mrs. Frank Davis, of Fall River, Mass. Funeral service will be held at the home, 320 Boyles street, at 10:30 Monday morning. Interment in Logan Valley cemetery. Altoona Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Saturday Morning, February 17, 1917
