G. - 1929 McCULLOUGH, James H. - 1904 _____________________________________________ BARBARA MCCULLOUGH Death of Mrs. Barbara McCullough Died at her home in Birmingham, Huntingdon county, at noon on Saturday last, Mrs. Barbara McCullough, widow of John McCullough, in the 80th year of her age. The deceased was the mother of seven children. These were: Mary, the deceased wife of James McQuaid, of Sinking Valley; Martha, wife of D. E. Robeson, of Lewistown; Rachel, a single daughter, who, with her mother, composed the family where the deceased had lived for over a half a century; Andrew J., living at Derry, Pa.; John F., of Anaheim, California, and D. G. and J. H., residing in Altoona. Mrs. McCullough had been a consistent member of the Presbyterian church for many years and was a woman worthy of the name of Christina. She was a regular attendant at all the means of grace and always took an active part in the Sunday school. She had no enemies and during her illness many were the wishes expressed that she might be spared for a yet longer stay upon earth. During her last sickness which was for over a period of four weeks she suffered greatly from severe pain yet with a smile upon her countenance would ay "My Father's will; not mine," and her last words to her weeping family and friends were, "I am going home." Altoona Tribune. April 23, 1885 _____ D. G. McCULLOUGH D. G. McCullough, Civil war veteran, will be buried with the honors of war today. The service will be held at the residence 1201 Fourteenth avenue. Grand Army veterans will meet at the post room at 911 Chestnut avenue, at 1:15 p.m. Cars will be there to take them to the residence, to the cemetery and to their homes. D. N. Slep, W.S. Aaron, John Palsgrove, Frank Burns, Joseph Stoke and Jesse Watson, the latter four representing the Sons of Veterans, will be pall bearers. G.A.R. veterans will conduct the ritual. James L. Noble post No. 3, Veterans of Foreign Wars will march in the cortege and will furnish the firing squad and bugler. September 1929 _____ James H. McCULLOUGH James H. McCullough, formerly a resident of Altoona, died at 2 Monday afternoon at his home in Birmingham, Huntingdon county, after a brief illness. He had been to Pittsburgh, returning home last Saturday night, and on Sunday evening was stricken with apoplexy. He was born at Birmingham in July, 1847. He came to this city from Johnstown, where he was engaged in the grocery business, in 1874, and embarked in the shoe business. His store was burned on the evening of August 17, 1884. Shortly afterward he disposed of his store and retired from business. For the past several years he had been a resident of Birmingham. His wife, who was Miss Flora Jones, survives him. He also leaves one sister and three brothers, as follows: D.G. McCullough of this city; A.J. McCullough of Derry; J. B. McCullough of Los Angeles, California, and Mrs. Martha E. Robinson of Lewistown. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias, and at one time of the Masonic fraternity. The funeral will take place at 3 Wednesday afternoon, the services being held at his pate residence. Interment will be made in the Presbyterian cemetery at Birmingham. January 18, 1904
