McDowell, of 1417 Twelfth avenue, retired merchant and well known resident of the Third ward, died yesterday afternoon at 1 o'clock at his home of a complication of diseases. He was ill three months. Mr. McDowell retired from business about fifteen years ago and formerly conducted a general merchandise store at Seventh avenue and Seventh street. He was born at Newton Hamilton and was married to Miss Mary E. Swartz. He is survived by his wife, one sister, Mrs. Mary A. Morrison, of Findlay, O.; two half-brothers, Edwin McDowell, a missionary in Persia, and James, of Denver, Col.; and a half-sister, Mrs. Will Plack, of Philadelphia. The deceased was a member of the First Presbyterian church, Logan lodge, F. and A.M.; Mountain commandery No. 10, Knights Templar, and Jaffa Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S. He was treasurer of the Jaffa Temple association, as well as one of the directors. Public funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at his late residence, followed by private burial in Fairview cemetery.
