He was born in Defiance, Nov. 6, 1876, a son of Aaron and Eliza Stevens McElwee. His wife, Myrtle, died May 30, 1935. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Marjorie Johnson of Brooklyn, N. Y., Mrs. Elizabeth Shover and Mrs. Ruth VanOrmer, both of Altoona; three sons, J. L. McElwee and D. P. McElwee of Altoona and H. A. McElwee of Charleston, W. Va.; eight grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters: William and Henry McElwee of Defiance, Thomas of Six Mile Run and Mrs. Sarah Rowland of Frostburg, Md. Mr. McElwee retired from the Pennsylvania railroad June 24, 1937, with thirty-five years of service. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and of the Fifth Avenue Methodist church. Friends will be received at the Mauk & Yates funeral home.
