Roaring Spring Items

"FLU" FATAL TO THREE.

  The Spanish influenza, followed by attacks of pneumonia, has resulted 
in the deaths of three well known Ore Hill young people since Tuesday.  
The little hamlet, where possibly 200 people reside and the male 
population is employed in the mines, is in the grip of the worst 
epidemic that has struck the village in many years.  Families of eight 
persons have been confined to their beds at the same time and more than 
forty cases are reported from that vicinity.  Several new cases 
demanded the attention of physicians yesterday.
  The disease resulted fatal for Arthur C. McGee, Emory Shade and Irene 
Dick.  Mrs. Ezra Dick, mother of the dead girl, has also developed 
pneumonia and her condition is serious.
  Arthur C. McGee, son of Mr. and Mrs. John McGee, died at 8 a.m. 
Wednesday, following an illness of one week.  He was born at Ore Hill 
and was aged 21 years.  The boy would shortly have answered a call to 
army service.  He belonged to the P.O.S. of A.  He is survived by his 
parents and eight brothers and sisters.  The funeral will be held this 
afternoon at 1 o'clock.  Services at the home.  Interment in Roaring 
Spring cemetery.
